Acropolis

Acropolis is a reef dive site located by Ribbon Reef 9 on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, and has featured on a number of best dive sites in the world lists. The site is characterised by rolling hills of hard coral, including plate coral and staghorns, rising from a shallow coral theatre that leads out to a wall which follows around toward other sites on the northern side of the channel.

The reef is noted as a strong spot for nudibranch hunting, and the hard coral landscape of plate coral and staghorn formations defines the terrain throughout the site.

The entry follows the wall out from the shallow coral theatre, continuing around toward the northern side of the channel. Dwarf Minke whales visit the upper Ribbon Reef area during the winter months, travelling from Antarctic waters to the warmer northern reaches of the Great Barrier Reef.
