April Point Reef is a boat dive off the shores of Quadra Island, in the north central area of the Campbell River region of British Columbia. The reef runs from 10 to 30 m (30 to 100 ft) below the surface, with a maximum depth of about 30 m (100 ft).
Current shapes this site. Strong currents feed a dense growth of invertebrate life, and the slack periods between the current are short, so expect to be carried along the bottom. It suits experienced divers who can handle swift current.
Marine life here is colourful. Large colonies of sponges and strawberry anemones, barnacles and Puget Sound king crabs paint the reef in red, yellow and orange. Down at 30 m (100 ft) you may find a colony of glass sponge, tealia anemones, basket stars, funnel and cloud sponges, soft and hard coral, abalone, giant nudibranchs and ling cod.
