The Artificial Reef is a man-made reef off Pernera in Cyprus, a five minute boat ride from the Golden Coast fishing shelter. It was a project run with the Cyprus Fisheries Department, completed in 2015, and has since become a breeding ground for a variety of marine life.
Large fishing nets, concrete pipes, boulders and concrete blocks make up the structure, all connected by a guideline along the seabed. Divers can see schools of amberjack or barracuda, plenty of rainbow wrasse and groupers, and with luck nudibranchs or a turtle feeding in the seagrass.
