The Barges is a wreck site just outside the north-west shore of Grande Island in Subic Bay, Philippines. The name comes from the large number of pontoons and barges placed there by the American forces, scattered in sections across the site.
The first section lies about 40 m north of the west end of Grande Island at roughly 6 m, and the next is about 20 m further on at about 10 m. The site forms a rough letter T, with the left part at about 18 m and the right part dropping to around 32 m. The deepest barges reach 35 m, and the dive is given as 4 to 35 m overall.
Garden eels, pipefish, lionfish, nudibranchs, sea cucumbers, bluespotted stingrays, groupers, clownfish and pufferfish are common, with clams too. Schools of tuna have been seen occasionally.
Conditions and who it suits. Visibility is fairly good for Subic Bay. The shallow sections suit beginners and training, and the deeper parts suit advanced divers. There are easy penetration possibilities, and the site works for photography, discovery dives and night dives.
