Barracuda Point is a wall dive on the edge of the Cala Bianca shoal at Marettimo, on the boundary of the strict no-take reserve. The dive is classed as difficult and runs for 40 to 45 minutes, with depths from 15 to 25 m.
Barracuda are the reason to come. The top of the shoal sits at about 10 to 12 m, and a school of barracuda is close to guaranteed there. Strong currents batter the site, and the current turns the fish into a dense wall that circles the divers, curious about them, in crossing paths.
Conditions need effort. The descent often takes work because of a strong surface current, and the current stays strong on the site. Visibility is excellent.
The terrain around the top is made of fallen boulders that shelter groupers and dotti. The dive drops into the blue over the rim below, swimming among the groupers and dotti, then climbs back to the same terrace, where the barracuda gather round again.
