About this site
Beaufighter is a wreck dive off the island of Naxos, where a British long-range heavy fighter of the RAF lies on the seabed. The aircraft was shot down near the island in 1943 during the Second World War, and its two-man crew bailed out and were rescued by local fishermen.
The wreck rests flat on the sand at a depth of 34 metres, and it looks as if the pilot had made a perfect belly landing. It is still in good condition, with only the nose compartment and part of the tail fin missing. The dive is aimed at more experienced divers.
