Black Ray Channel is a sandy channel in Kapalai, Malaysia, with depths between 5 and 20 m. Water temperatures run from 25 to 28 C.
The channel is easy diving. There is little current and the surface is fairly calm most of the time, which makes it suitable for beginners. Visibility can reach about 30 m.
The marine life is mostly small and well camouflaged. Ghost pipefish, ribbon eels, lavender frogfish and stonefish live in the channel. The main draw for many divers is the chance to find pairs of dragon fish, bony armoured sand dwellers that blend into the bottom and are often hard to spot.
After the channel, dive guides generally lead divers on to an underwater garden with small life, including tropical octopus and several rare nudibranch species.
