Blue Cavern Point is a protected marine reserve located at the west end of Catalina Island, California, accessible by boat. The site is known for its dramatic underwater topography of large caves, caverns, hidden arches, and rugged rock formations, with a maximum depth of around 30.5 metres (100 feet).
The caverns and surrounding rock structures hold a range of marine life including spiny lobsters, moray eels, calico, kelp bass, rockfish, sheepshead, bat rays, and giant black sea bass. Light filtering into the caverns creates striking visual effects within the cave interiors.
Blue Cavern Point is a boat-access-only dive; no anchoring is permitted at the site. Visibility is generally excellent, reaching 9–12 metres (30–40 feet), particularly in summer and fall. Water temperature ranges from 13°C (55°F) in winter to around 23°C (74°F) in summer, requiring an appropriate wetsuit.
Conditions can include medium to strong currents, and the deeper water combined with those currents makes this site suited to advanced divers only. Blue Cavern Point is one of California's strictest marine preserves, so collecting or disturbing marine life is not permitted.
