Capernwray Diving Centre is a former limestone quarry in Carnforth, Lancashire, now used as a dedicated diving and open-water swimming site. The quarry's origins give it a distinctive character, and it is well regarded among northern divers as a favourite for both recreational diving and training.
The site reaches a maximum depth of 18 m with a gravel bottom, offering great visibility. Water temperature sits at around 11°C, making exposure protection essential; on cold days the air temperature can drop to near freezing, so staying warm between dives is a greater challenge than staying warm during them.
Capernwray is considered suitable for beginners and is frequently used for training dives alongside recreational use. The site is described as vast, suggesting plenty of room to explore across multiple dives.
Sturgeon have been recorded at the site, making them a notable species to look out for during a dive.
