Chek Isa, also called Mini Mount, is a submerged reef at Redang in Malaysia. It starts at 8 m (26 ft) and slopes to a sandy bottom at about 20 m (66 ft). Two enormous boulders carpeted with soft corals, sponges and hydroids make up its main structure.
Cowries, spider shells and Christmas tree worms are often found together with angelfish, parrotfish, wrasses, groupers and schooling batfish. Devil scorpionfish lie well camouflaged on the sandy bottom.
Mild to moderate currents sometimes run, which can bring pelagic visitors, so look out into the blue for adult black-tip sharks. Night dives show crabs, eels, urchins, squid, spiny lobsters and cowries. The water is 27 to 30 C (81 to 86 F) and the main season runs March to October.
