Chikin Ha is a cenote in the Aldea Maya Cenote Park, also known as Chikin Ha Cenotes, which holds three cenotes in lush vegetation. Two easy dives start in Cenote Chikin Ha and both run through the same huge tunnel to the open area of Cenote Rainbow, where you ascend and surface to admire it from inside. Take care when ascending, as you are in open water before reaching the surface, and avoid roofs and formations.
The cavern area reaches a maximum of 15 m. The water is 24°C all year, since the cenotes are connected by tunnels and the water flows. Visibility is great, and there are fossils and dripstone formations along the way. Dives last about 40 to 55 minutes.
Divers need at least Open Water certification and good buoyancy, trim and propulsion. You follow the permanent guideline in single file with a flashlight, in a group of up to four divers plus a guide. A halocline is present. Cenote Rainbow is commonly used for ceremonies, so there may be a slight smell of incense.
