Dunaff Head is a dive in Lough Swilly built around a series of gullies running north and south, narrowing in the centre to an inverted keyhole swim through. Depths run from 15 to 25 metres over a rock bottom, and the site is rated advanced.
Strong currents and swell are the main hazards, so the tide matters: descend at the headland and swim southward on ebb tides, and northward on the flood. Visibility is great. Pollack, ballan wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, conger eels, ling, angler fish and cod are found here, with jewel anemones and mussels on the rock.
