End Bommie is a circular coral pinnacle (bommie) situated at the end of a section of the Papuan Barrier Reef, approximately 3 nautical miles from Loloata Island, Papua New Guinea. It marks one side of a deep-water channel through the reef. Entry is made down a mooring line on top of Horseshoe Reef, a large section of the Papuan Barrier Reef, and divers then proceed west along the reef wall via a coral ridge that connects to the bommie itself.
The bommie's depth ranges from 5 m at its shallowest to 30 m and beyond, with the best diving found from 10 m down. The roughly circular pinnacle rises from depth and supports luxuriant coral growth—including large gorgonian fans, sea whips, and an anemone garden—sustained by the regular current flow through the channel.
The site acts as a magnet for schooling reef fish that congregate around the pinnacle to feed on nutrient-rich outflowing water. Highlights include weedy scorpionfish (Rhinopias aphanes), red and black anemonefish, pygmy seahorses, sharks, and rays, along with abundant reef fish life throughout.
Best conditions are early in the outgoing tide, when fish activity peaks. The site is manageable at slack tide and suits novice divers, but currents can become very strong to extreme mid-tide during the outgoing flow, particularly near spring tides around the full and new moons—at those times it demands experienced divers. Visibility and fish activity are directly tied to current; without flow the site is quieter.
