About this site
Gilimanuk, on the west coast of Bali, holds muck sites, among them Secret Bay, an easy shore dive in calm, shallow, clear water of 0 to 10 m. Visibility is 5 to 10 m and the water is 24 to 25 C, about 5 C colder than most West Bali sites, because deep cold currents are pushed into the bay by upwelling and tidal changes.
The shallow sand and seagrass, together with the cold water, give a mix of tropical, temperate, Indian and Pacific species. Pipefish, sea urchins, yellow seahorses, cuttlefish, flatworms, nudibranchs, pleurobranchs, hairtail blennies, puffers, milkfish, Ambon scorpionfish and frogfish live here.
It is best dived in the morning when visibility is good, and a 5 mm wetsuit is advised.
