Hammerhead Mesa sits along the outer slopes of Rangiroa, one of the largest atolls in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia, in the general area accessed by boat from the villages of Avatoru or Tiputa near the atoll's passes. Divers here have reported a varied mix of reef fish including bignose and paletail unicornfish, Moorish idols, raccoon butterflyfish, scissortail sergeants, humpback snapper, and titan triggerfish, along with larger species such as giant moray, Napoleon wrasse, and common bottlenose dolphins.
Confirmed by our research team, reported by independent divers, or observed nearby via iNaturalist — each entry is labelled with its source.
