Hermes is a wreck off Bermuda, built in 1943 as a Navy buoy tender. She ended her working life broken down in Bermuda and was sold for a single dollar. She was scuttled in 1984 to create an artificial reef.
The wreck. She sits upright in 21 to 23 m (70 to 75 ft) of water. Her hatches were removed for safe penetration, so divers can explore the cargo hold, crew quarters and engine room.
Marine life. Schools of barracuda and snapper swirl around the wreck, and the surrounding reef is pristine. The wreck is rated as suitable for intermediate divers, and some operators also recommend it to beginners and wreck enthusiasts because it stays intact and easy to explore.
