About this site

Hibo Reef is a deep reef along the coast near Puerto Galera on Mindoro in the Philippines, about 500 m from the local dive centre. It is open to the current of the Verde Island Passage, so it is best dived at slack tide.

Depths run from 25 to 40 m (82 to 131 ft), with an average of about 35 m. Current is moderate and can be strong at times, and the open blue water makes conditions variable, so the site is for advanced divers.

Spanish and rainbow mackerel, tuna, wahoo and stingrays pass through. The main attraction is a family of large white-tip reef sharks of about 1.5 m, along with grey reef sharks. Hard and soft corals and reef fish cover the reef.
