Hondoq Bay

Hondoq Bay is a sheltered little bay on the southeast coast of Gozo, in Malta. Divers can walk in from the beach or do a giant stride entry from the jetty, and there are several entry and exit points.

Inside the bay the water is shallow, with depth increasing slowly and smoothly as you move out from the beach, to a maximum of about 11 to 12 m (36 to 39 ft). The bottom is a mix of rock, sand and large stretches of healthy Posidonia seagrass, with small valleys, cracks and crevices that hide animals. A pipeline runs out toward Comino and gives crustaceans cover, and near the deepest point you can spot large cart wheels once used to transport stone.

Salpa, bream, wrasse and damselfish are common, with the odd small octopus or moray eel on the rocky seabed. Visibility is good and the site suits beginners.
