Irako is a Japanese refrigeration supply ship wreck at the mouth of Coron Bay, Palawan, Philippines. The ship was 146.9 m long and 19 m wide, displaced 9,723 tons, and was driven by two geared steam turbines of 8,300 hp turning twin propellers, with steam from six boilers and a top speed of 17.5 knots.
The wreck sits upright on a sandy bottom in about 28 to 43 m, with a maximum depth near 44 m. It is quite intact and has some of the best visibility among the Coron wrecks. Cargo holds and corridors offer challenging penetration.
Large groupers and soft corals are the life noted here.
The depth calls for Advanced Open Water with a Deep Diver qualification. No-decompression time is limited, so plan gas carefully, and nitrox is advised..
