About this site
Kittiwake Shipwreck is the wreck of the USS Kittiwake, sunk off Grand Cayman in 2011 as an artificial reef. The ship served as a U.S. Navy submarine rescue vessel for nearly 50 years.
Before it went down, large holes were cut to allow swim-throughs, and doors and even floors were removed. Goliath grouper, silver-sides, schooling horse-eye jacks and barracuda are drawn to the wreck, and it is a favourite with divers who visit or live on the island.
