La Corbetena is a rock far from shore, north west of Puerto Vallarta and outside the limits of Banderas Bay. It lies about an hour by boat from Punta de Mita and is known for pelagic encounters, with manta rays, turtles, dolphins, jacks and reef sharks reported, and marlins on occasion.
The rock holds arches, steep walls and caves, and the walls are encrusted with barnacles. The north side has a sloping area to the bottom, while the south part drops rapidly to a sandbar at 36.6 metres (120 feet). The current can be strong.
The site is dived only in the summer months, when visibility ranges from roughly 18 to 37 metres (60 to 120 feet).
