La Viuda lies off the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica, in the Pacific waters near the Papagayo Gulf area of the country's northwest, and is typically reached by boat from towns such as Playas del Coco. Divers here have reported a varied mix of life, including whitetip reef sharks, king angelfish, Mexican hogfish, and guineafowl and white-spotted puffers, along with chestnut morays, giant damselfish, and both blue sea stars and Panamic cushion stars along the bottom.
