Lighthouse is a shallow wreck at Neil Island, formed when a colonial-era lighthouse collapsed in the 2004 tsunami and became an artificial reef. The structure spans 5 to 12 metres. The tower base sits at 10-12m and is encrusted with coral, the middle section at 7-9m holds swim-throughs, and the upper debris at 5-7m gathers fish. Visibility is usually 15-20m.
At dawn a school of 30-50 humphead parrotfish gathers at the wreck between 5:30 and 6:30 AM in a spawning aggregation. Green sea turtles are the most common turtle here, hawksbills are regular visitors and olive ridleys are occasional, and they rest on the wreck structures. Dugongs are sighted grazing in the nearby seagrass two to three times a month, most often from December to March.
Giant pufferfish, titan triggerfish, giant moray eels in the crevices, stingrays, groupers, batfish, fusiliers and yellow snappers also live on the wreck.
