Los Champiñones is a boat dive in southern Tenerife, named for the large mushroom-shaped volcanic rocks that make up the seabed. Sandy channels, overhangs and small caves run between the formations.
Depth ranges from 15 to about 30 m. Current runs from light to strong. The formations shelter parts of the route when the current is running, so divers can move through the strongest sections without fighting the water. A small tunnel passes through one of the rocks, and bigeyes often gather in its shade.
Marine life includes moray eels, trumpetfish, combers and groupers around the reef, with schools of roncadores and barracuda above the rocks. Rays are regular visitors, and loggerhead turtles, tuna and bonito may pass through the blue water nearby.
With changing depths, swim-throughs and possible current, the dive suits Advanced divers with confident buoyancy and good awareness.
