Favignana is the largest of the Egadi Islands, off the western coast of Sicily near Trapani, sitting within the Egadi Islands Marine Protected Area. Mare Di Papa lies along this island's coastline, where the shore is typically limestone rock meeting the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the site is generally reached by boat from the small harbor town on the island. Divers here have reported mauve stinger jellyfish drifting through the water column along with gorgonian growth on the rock, including pink sea fans, violescent sea-whips, yellow and white gorgonians, and patches of star coral and Mediterranean red coral.
