Moore Reef is a Great Barrier Reef site located 45 kilometres east of Cairns, Queensland, accessed via a moored pontoon. Depths range from 1 to 25 metres, with a reef bottom that suits a wide range of water activities including snorkelling, scuba diving, and helmet diving.
The reef's terrain spans very shallow areas through to a maximum of 25 metres, offering varied coral and marine life across the depth range. Giant clams, anemonefish, six-bar wrasse, Titan Triggerfish, and Humphead Maori Wrasse are among the species present at the site, and green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles appear in the snorkelling area on most days.
Access is by boat from the Reef Fleet Terminal in Cairns, with the vessel docking directly at the moored pontoon for the duration of the visit. The snorkelling area is marked out by buoys and ropes, with safety lookouts monitoring the perimeter. The site is rated for beginners, though current can run strong.
