The MV Trident is a deliberately sunk wreck dive site located just south of Shark Island, Koh Tao, Thailand. The vessel was a former dive boat — once owned by the first company to bring technical diving to Koh Tao — and was intentionally scuttled in 2010 to create an artificial reef and wreck diving site in a sheltered bay. The wreck sits at a maximum depth of 36 metres, with the shallowest point at around 26–28 metres, making it one of the deeper wreck dives in the area.
The MV Trident attracts a range of marine life, including batfish, schools of barracuda, chevron barracudas, yellow-tail barracudas, large groupers, yellow fusiliers, giant puffer fish, porcupine fish, nurse sharks, stingrays, and nudibranchs. The best diving season runs from March to September, with water temperatures between 28 and 30°C.
The site is subject to moderate currents, which — combined with depths reaching 36 metres, sharp edges, limited spaces, entanglement risks, and potentially limited visibility inside the wreck — make this unsuitable for novice divers. Advanced certification is the minimum requirement, and divers with Nitrox, intro-to-tech, or decompression procedure experience are strongly recommended before attempting this site. Because it is dived infrequently relative to shallower wrecks in the area, planning ahead is advisable.
