Nine Mile Reef is the furthest dive site that can be reached from Sodwana Bay in South Africa, about 14 km from the launch site, and it suits divers who want some exploration. Depths range from 18 to 30 metres, with swim-throughs, dramatic overhangs and caves.
Moray eels peer out from crevices, tube anemones sway in the current, and frogfish and scorpionfish are hidden among the formations. Larger pelagic species are drawn to the site, and the boat ride to and from it may bring dolphins or a manta ray.
