Nippo Maru is one of the most iconic wrecks in Truk Lagoon, known for the remarkable state of its wartime relics. It rests at depths of 40 to 49 metres (130 to 160 feet), and its holds are filled with military equipment.
Several tanks, artillery pieces and other military vehicles sit on the deck, still largely intact. The bridge and helm are well preserved, with the telegraphs and steering wheel still in place, and penetration divers can reach the galley and living quarters, where personal items are still visible.
Schools of jacks, snappers and groupers surround the ship, and its structure also shelters macro life.
