Rainbow Reef is a major reef system located in the Somosomo Strait, between the islands of Taveuni and Vanua Levu in Fiji, and is widely regarded as one of Fiji's best-known dive and snorkel locations. Strong currents through the strait deliver a constant supply of nutrients, sustaining what is considered the finest soft coral population in the country across more than 25 individual sites. A notable feature within the reef is the Great White Wall, a vertical wall approximately 150 feet (45 m) deep and 200 feet (61 m) across, its surface blanketed in white soft coral.
The reef reaches a maximum depth of 27.4 m, with terrain characterised by reef structures, walls, and soft coral gardens populated with sea fans. Conditions suit advanced divers: currents run strong, and dives should be timed to slack water only. Visibility is generally great, and water temperature ranges from 26–30°C.
Marine life on Rainbow Reef includes leopard sharks, anthias, triggerfish, reef sharks, white-tip reef sharks, barracudas, Napoleon wrasse, manta rays, and abundant colourful fish across the coral and anemone-covered reef. Manta rays are seasonal, present generally from May to November.
