Ribbon Valley is a reef on the southern tip of Mabul. Its bottom is reef, and the maximum depth is 30 m. The site is described as a biodiverse reef, and the name points to the animal most divers come to find here.
Terrain here is a set of terraced slopes that lead gradually down towards 30 m. Colourful waving gorgonian fans grow among the slopes, so the profile is easy to follow and there is no sheer drop to manage. The reef is also listed among the gently sloping coral reefs of Mabul that are visited on snorkelling trips, where corals are abundant.
Marine life on the slopes includes parrotfish, emperor fish, butterfly fish, scorpion fish and damselfish. Ribbon eels are common sightings, as the name of the site suggests. Look closely for bubble coral shrimp, squat lobsters, nudibranchs and worms, which reward a slow pace along the terraces.
