Rubicon Point is a wall dive site within D.L. Bliss Underwater Park on the western shore of Lake Tahoe, sitting at the northern end of a cliff band that runs south almost to Emerald Bay along roughly 2.5 miles of shoreline.
The terrain is defined by dead-vertical granite walls dropping in 70-foot steps hundreds of feet into the deep, with buttresses and pinnacles jutting from the walls and massive house-sized boulders forming huge overhangs. Depths increase rapidly from minimal shallows, and buoyancy control is essential given the monstrous drop-offs throughout the park.
Marine life includes schools of Lahontan redside shiners numbering in the hundreds that gather at the lip of the cliffs during the warmer months, trout cruising the shallows in the mornings, and crawdads clinging to the cliff faces year-round. The site is considered technical in difficulty, suited to experienced divers comfortable with deep walls and limited shallow water.
Hazards include fishing hooks from shore anglers. The warmer months are the recommended season for diving this site.
