Saturday Night Ledge is a rocky mount three nautical miles off the Gloucester Harbor breakwater, reached by boat. Its peaks come up to 70 to 80 feet (21 to 24 m), and the surrounding water is about 130 feet (40 m) deep over a gravelly sand bottom. The shallowest prominence measures roughly 200 by 200 feet.
A trench divides the north and south parts, with the deepest water to the east and south east. To the north the bottom slopes to 100 to 110 feet, and to the west a shoulder at 80 to 90 feet runs for several hundred feet before it drops away.
The rock is covered in anemones and hydroids that draw fish. Frilled anemones, tubularian hydroids and cunner are always present, and longhorn sculpin, wolffish and red anemones are frequently spotted. The site is well offshore and exposed from all sides, so calm seas are the best days to go.
