Scoglio della Galea is a rocky outcrop and the southernmost dive site in the Capo Vaticano area, near Tropea in Calabria, southern Italy. The dive is conducted on the south side of the emergent rock, which anchors a chain of submerged boulders and smaller rocks resting on a pale sandy bottom at a maximum depth of 19 metres.
The terrain is defined by the chain of rocks and rocky outcrops sitting on the sand, creating an abundance of crevices and fissures that serve as shelter for grouper, brown meagre (corvina), and white seabream. The shaded walls are covered in colourful sponges and draped with various species of algae; from the first metres of depth the rocks carry sponges, clusters of tunicates, and starfish, while the rocky bottom also hosts large crustaceans, particularly mantis shrimp and spiny lobster.
Water clarity is a defining characteristic of the site, with great visibility and strong natural light throughout the dive. The site is considered one of the most representative dives in the Tropea area, combining clear water, high luminosity, and sponge-encrusted rocks.
The site is reached by boat and is suitable for beginner divers as well as more experienced ones. The bottom type is rock over sand.
