Shag Rock is a reef in the Red Sea, and the site is known for the Kingston wreck that lies on it. The depth range runs from 2 to 18 m, and the dive suits both beginner and advanced divers.
History. The Kingston was a British iron screw steamer on her way to Aden when she struck the reef at Shag Rock on 22 February 1881 and sank. More than 125 years later the wreck is still in remarkable condition.
The wreck. She sits upright on an even keel with her bows smashed into the reef. At the stern the propeller and rudder are found intact at 17 m. From there the diver swims upwards into the remains of the wreck.
