Telegraph Reef is a reef dive on the windward side of Yap, Micronesia. It is a gentle slope with large coral bommies, and it is described as a good night dive among the rocky shelves and bommies before the channel entrances, where fish life is active.
The depth runs from 9 to 25 m. Visibility is 15 to 30 m or more, and current is 0 to 3 km/h, so conditions are mild.
The name comes from the remnants of a subsea telegraph cable laid by the Germans at the turn of the century, which can be seen in places along the top edge of the reef. The cable was a communications link that reached the Asian mainland in Singapore.
Corals here face the wave action of the windward side, so the hard corals and rock formations tend to be more rounded. At night numerous crinoids can be found. Night dives turn up many lionfish and bright red stonefish, and huge sea hares with blood-red colouring that look like a nudibranch but are nearly a foot long.
