The Blue Hole is a shore dive located in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, centred on a swim-through that cuts through the reef, connecting sandy shallows on one side to open ocean on the other, with maximum depth ranging from 18 to 35 metres (verified max 33.9 m).
The terrain combines the main swim-through passage with several caves and overhangs within the reef, and a garden of eels marks the approach to the entrance. A torch is recommended, as large groupers and forkbeard are regularly found sheltering in the darker recesses.
Marine life at the site includes garden eels, groupers, forkbeard, barracudas, octopus, and angel sharks. Angel sharks are most reliably seen between November and April, though they can appear at any time of year; stingrays — including roughtail stingrays, butterfly rays, and eagle rays — are more commonly encountered from May to November.
Currents at this site are generally not strong. The Blue Hole is rated as an advanced dive and is open to Open Water certified divers and above.
