The Cathedral

The Cathedral is an advanced pinnacle dive site in Belongas Bay, South Lombok, Indonesia, located to the east of The Magnet. The site features two towering underwater pinnacles that form a dramatic cathedral-like structure, with steep walls covered in colourful soft corals. A large underwater cave at 40 metres is a defining feature of the site, and the walls descend to around 50 metres, with diveable depths ranging from 15 to 35 metres.

Marine life at The Cathedral includes schools of barracuda, tuna, mackerel, and giant trevally, along with white-tip, black-tip, and grey reef sharks. Eagle rays and occasional other rays are also sighted. Schooling pelagics are frequently present throughout the water column. The best season to dive is from March or April through November or December, with water temperatures ranging from 26–30°C.

Conditions are exposed and demanding. Visibility ranges between 10 and 20 metres depending on sea state and seasonal currents. Strong currents, surge, and downcurrents are characteristic of the site, and the open-ocean exposure means conditions can change quickly. The site is recommended for experienced divers only and is not suitable for beginners.
