The Eye lies along the rocky coastline of Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands off western Greece, typically reached by small boat from a nearby coastal village. The limestone shoreline here drops into clear inshore waters typical of the island's coast. Divers have reported an unusually varied mix of fish on the site, including dusky spinefoot, European parrotfish, Mediterranean damselfish, painted comber, rivulated rabbitfish, and striped red mullet, along with sightings of Indian lionfish, a species that has been spreading through the Mediterranean in recent years.
