Vilamendhoo Thila is a reef site cradled in the Rangali south channel in the Maldives, known as a manta cleaning station — the name itself derives from the Maldivian word for manta ray (Madi). The terrain features a sloping bottom that meets a plateau reef covered in coral formations, and the site is suitable for both snorkelling and scuba diving, including beginners.
Marine life at Vilamendhoo Thila centres on the ocean's larger species: manta rays use the site as a cleaning station, and the reef also hosts whitetip, silvertip, and grey reef sharks, turtles, Napoleon wrasse, and whale sharks. Individual dives have recorded turtles and stonefish among the highlights.
Hazards to be aware of include sharp corals. The site is rated suitable for beginners and is accessible for both snorkellers and scuba divers.
