About this site
Akahanga sits along the southern coastline of Easter Island (Rapa Nui), in Chilean territory well out in the South Pacific, near the archaeological site of the same name where a fallen moai and ceremonial platform lie ashore. Diving here takes place along volcanic coastline typical of the island, with the open ocean dropping away quickly from shore. Divers have reported the Dragon's-Head Cowry and Whitebar Surgeonfish along this stretch, both consistent with the endemic and Pacific reef species found around the island's rocky shoreline.
