About this site
The Ana Cecilia is a 170 foot (52 metre) freighter wreck off Singer Island near Palm Beach, Florida, sunk on 13 July 2016 about a mile offshore in about 90 feet (27 metres) of water. The 629-ton ship is 40 feet (12 metres) wide. She once carried humanitarian goods from Miami to Havana, and was seized in 2015 by US authorities. She is the first stop on a drift of six wrecks along the Mizpah Corridor, because the current tends to run north.
Goliath groupers made her their home soon after she was sunk, and many aggregate on her from August through October during their spawning season. A friendly barracuda may be in the wheelhouse, and octopus live in the cracks and small holes on the deck. Sponge and soft coral growth has covered her.
Large cutouts in the decks and companionways make easy swim-throughs, and they let ambient light reach the interior, which is good for photography. Bring a dive light. Five plaques on the ship remember local mariners who lost their lives.
