About this site
Anchor Bay is a shore dive near Mellieha on the north-west coast of Malta. The bay is best known for the film set of the original Popeye movie, and the whole bay is sometimes called Popeye Village after the theme park. The maximum depth is 14 m (46 ft) over a sandy bottom.
On the north side of the bay a very large anchor is attached to a large chain. The anchor, which is 3 m long, lies on a sand bed at 8 m (26 ft). Divers often visit it on the same dive as the cavern.
The cavern lies along the reef in the bay. It has a wide entrance and an air pocket.
