About this site
Ascension Island is a remote volcanic island in the South Atlantic Ocean, part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, lying roughly midway between the coasts of South America and Africa. Its shoreline is formed of volcanic rock and lava flows, with the island itself the exposed peak of a mid-Atlantic Ridge volcano rising from deep ocean floor.
