About this site

The Back Side of Christo Rei is a sloping coral reef near Dili, sometimes known as the backside of Jesus. The beach gives easy access to the water at high tide, and the depth runs from 5 to 40 metres.

Colourful corals cover the slope, with shrimps, crabs and nudibranchs hiding in the reef. Out in the blue, sharks and giant trevallies pass by, while ribbon eels can be found on the reef.

Hammerhead sharks, devil rays and eagle rays have turned up on lucky days. A wide-angle lens suits the site, and snorkelling is possible too.
