Barco Viejo lies within the Bocas del Toro archipelago on Panama's Caribbean coast, an area of mangrove-lined islands and reef patches off the country's northwest shoulder near the border with Costa Rica. Dive and snorkel sites in this archipelago are typically reached by short boat rides from the town of Bocas del Toro on Isla Colon or from nearby lodges scattered across the islands. The wreck here sits shallow, with a maximum depth of around 12 metres, but it is rated an advanced dive.
