About this site
Beatrice Rock is a sloping reef with drop-offs located near Sombrero Island in Tingloy waters, within the Maricaban Strait area of Anilao, Philippines. The reef runs from 10 m to 27 m depth, with the upper reef drawing the most attention for wide-angle photography.
The upper reef is famous for the thousands of anthias that swarm it in dense clouds of orange and pink, while barrel sponges and feather stars add foreground interest. Green and hawksbill turtles pass through regularly, and blue-ringed octopus hide in crevices throughout the reef.
Currents pick up on tidal changes and can be strong, making good buoyancy control essential; a reef hook is recommended for current-prone conditions. The site is best dived on the incoming tide, when visibility peaks. Water temperature ranges from 22–30°C depending on season, and the best diving window runs from November through June.

Beatrice Rock is a boat dive, reached in 10–45 minutes from Mabini-area resorts by bangka. Advanced Open Water certification is required due to the tidal currents in the Maricaban Strait; solid drift diving experience is an advantage. The site is well suited to wide-angle photography.
