Black Coral Wall

Black Coral Wall lies along the fringing reef off Utila, one of the Bay Islands off Honduras's Caribbean coast, an area known for its walls and its proximity to whale shark aggregations. Despite the wall setting, this particular site tops out at a shallow maximum depth of around 4.6 metres, making it a beginner dive rather than the deeper drop-off diving Utila is often associated with. It sits along the shallow shelf where the reef begins its transition toward the wall formation typical of this coastline. Divers here have reported Atlantic blue tang, stoplight and striped parrotfish, schoolmaster snapper, bluestriped grunts, and both Caribbean bluehead and yellowhead wrasse moving over the shallows, along with blue land crabs and Caribbean land hermit crabs along the margins.
