About this site

Black Rock is a remote underwater pinnacle in Myanmar's Mergui Archipelago, widely considered the most popular dive site in Burmese waters. The site is a wall dive on rocky terrain, with colorful soft corals, anemone fields, and large gorgonian fans covering the structure from the shallows down to a maximum depth of 29 metres, with an optimum range of 5 to 30 metres.

The pinnacle rewards both macro and wide-angle divers. Harlequin shrimp, ghost pipefish, and frogfish occupy the many crevices and overhangs, while seahorses are found nearer the base. Schools of trevally and barracuda patrol the surrounding water, and manta rays and whale sharks pass through regularly.

Conditions run from moderate to strong current, and visibility is typically 20 to 30 metres. The site is rated intermediate and is accessed by liveaboard, with multiple dives often made here to cover the full extent of the pinnacle.
