About this site
Inishmaan is the middle island of the Aran Islands, set in Galway Bay off the Connacht coast of Ireland, and its shoreline is marked by the limestone terraces typical of the group. Blue Pool refers to a natural inlet along this rocky coast, where the Atlantic cuts into the karst pavement, reaching a maximum depth of around 130 metres and rated a technical dive. Access to the island is by ferry or small plane from Galway or Doolin. Divers have reported cuttlefish, lobster, and octopus around the site, along with limited natural light, swell, and hazards typical of a rocky inlet such as fishing lines and dead leaves and trees, including underwater trees, along the perimeter.
